Safety First for Amazing Atos AppThe environment, health and safety (EHS) issues that certain industries (i.e. oil and gas, chemical) must adhere to are wide-reaching and complex. So imagine the potential efficiencies that could be gleaned for safety managers if they had the ability to react to an environment or industrial issues in real-time, from a mobile device. Guess what? Atos, a global SAP partner and customer has devised a very impressive mobile app prototype that does just that, earning them a first place mobility showcase award at SAPPHIRE NOW from Madrid. Doctor, Doctor Give Me the NewsIt was only five months ago that a team of people from Berlin’s Charité hospital met with a development group from SAP but quickly Charité saw an opportunity to improve patient care through mobile technology. In short order, the hospital became a pilot customer for the SAP Electronic Medical Record mobile app. Speaking at a panel discussion on The Mobilized Enterprise at SAPPHIRE NOW from Madrid, Martin Peuker, Charité’s CIO talked about the hospital’s vision of “personalized medicine” – a vision of enhancing the quality of patient treatment while making the clinical process more efficient. Reason No. 4,378 Why Mobility is BigBy now we all know that mobility is one of the big stories this week at SAPPHIRE NOW. This is easy to understand. Phones and tablets are innovative, great for demos and becoming increasingly adopted in the enterprise. I’d like to add one more (tongue in cheek) observation to this list. (more…) |

The Good, Bad and Ugly of Managing Mobile Devices (Mostly Good)At SAPPHIRE NOW on Tuesday, a panel of enterprise IT administrators dished about their deployments of tablets and smartphones. Two-Way Street Between Analytics and Transactional DataIt wasn’t a surprise to see this prediction in CIO.com’s top 10 business predictions for 2011: “Real-time analytics will define and drive the real-time organization. As analytics is layered onto the megatrends of cloud, mobile and social, its capacity to create real-time businesses becomes closer than it appears.” In the social arena, Twitter plans to release a real-time analytics dashboard (possibly for free). Tweeters will be able to see what messages have a high number of retweets and conversely which ones don’t catch on. What’s assumed in the prediction is that analytics goes hand-in-hand with the data on which it is based – and not just that the data enables the analytics. This assumption was made explicit during the SME breakout session at the SAP Influencer Summit. |
